I will never forget this day, and I will never underestimate a Ballerina ever again!
I am one person, I have come to accept that I can only accomplish so much in one day; well I have now.
I am a hobby baker, I am not a full fledged bakery. I make everything from scratch, the day before or day of pick up (except things that require longer set times). I hand sculpt from fondant, gumpaste etc. I have one oven, one 12 year old stand mixer, one fridge, and one very small kitchen. I have a moderate sized family of 5. 3 growing boys and 2 adults take up a lot of fridge space, and so do cakes. Keeping all that in mind, plus the normal duties of a Homemaker, I have come to accept that I can only take on 1-2 cakes (depending on size) and no more than 6 dozen cupcakes in a weekend. Well for some reason I was feeling froggy because I took on 3 cakes plus a couple dozen cupcakes all due at the same time on the same day.
Another site done! Recently I was asked to set up a site for a local business, Du Jardin. Located in Damariscotta Maine, Du Jardin is a natural bath and beauty care line sold at the Damariscotta Farmers market as well as at Smitten (Nerdy Collectible shop). Now If you haven't been to this shop before, you must check it out! I could go on all day about the greatness of Smitten but that's a topic for another post. Any way back to the point. When the owner, Susan, asked for my help I was overjoyed, I love the products! My Husband uses the beard balm and it is AMAZING!!! I can't stress enough how much softer and better kept his beard is, and the scent is incredible very light (keeping it "Manly" ya know).
Recently I was asked to make a fondant topper for a birthday party. "The birthday girl just loves her dog Gracie, she does this silly thing with her blanket when she naps, can you make that?" ...

Growing up I loved Sunday mornings. My parents would make eggs, bacon, toast, and quite often my mother would make surprise muffins. We spent time together and enjoyed a good breakfast. This was so special to me because my parents were, and still are, self-employed, which means their work days were far longer than your standard 9-5 gig. As a family we did our best to have dinners together at the table each night, but let’s face it some nights it’s just not realistic. Work runs late, sports run through dinner time, and to be frank, at the end of the night we are all human, we’re tired, and we're just not always up to conversation nor able to give our best sharing and caring selves. As we got older Sunday mornings became hectic, we were either at a horse show, goat show, or all catching up on overdue work or rest. Before long Sunday morning breakfasts were few and far between.
One of the projects I do that not many people know about is website building. And yes, I mean building not designing. While the layouts and overall concepts are usually mine, I use Weebly to create the sites and their available tools rather than creating from scratch. Why do I do it this way? I mean I usually make everything from scratch, so why not the sites?
Recently I was asked to create a Pug themed cake for a going away gathering for a Nurse Practitioner. I spent a good few hours just trying to decide where to take that theme. I knew I wanted it to be fun and over the top but, I didn't want it to feel too goofy or like a birthday cake. I considered a few simple designs like a pugs face out of fondant stuck on a buttercreamed cake. I considered making a few fondant pugs playing on top of a cake. Then I came across an adorable sketch of a pug puppy in a coffee mug. That was it, that was going to be my inspiration for this cake.
Let's BLAZE! When asked to make a Blaze monster machine cake I wanted to do something more than just a plastic toy truck on top of a cake. I was given the budget and theme for the cake and away I went.
C is for cookie and cookie is the theme! Another fun cake and cupcake assortment. When I was asked to make a cookie monster cake I was originally asked to make a sheet cake. Well a long time ago I decide to be a cupcakery so I specialize in cupcakes and mini cakes. When most people hear cupcakes and mini cakes they are concerned about it being as grand as they are hoping for and if it will feed everyone. Well I assure you with a little creativity you will be surprised just what kind of a bang you can get from mini cakes.
Living on a shoestring and making the most of the lemons
Life is not easy, we all know this by now, but life is what you make it, no matter how corny that sounds (rhymes and all). Some days you can't wait for them to just be over and others, why can't they last longer. So let's make the most of it, make the shoe string budget as long as you can and make the best darn lemonade you've ever had!
I'm a baker, a crafter, a personal concierge, a website builder, Above all else, I am a mom to 3 rowdy boys. I'm not a stay-at-home-mom, I'm a Homemaker.
