Let's BLAZE! When asked to make a Blaze monster machine cake I wanted to do something more than just a plastic toy truck on top of a cake. I was given the budget and theme for the cake and away I went.
C is for cookie and cookie is the theme! Another fun cake and cupcake assortment. When I was asked to make a cookie monster cake I was originally asked to make a sheet cake. Well a long time ago I decide to be a cupcakery so I specialize in cupcakes and mini cakes. When most people hear cupcakes and mini cakes they are concerned about it being as grand as they are hoping for and if it will feed everyone. Well I assure you with a little creativity you will be surprised just what kind of a bang you can get from mini cakes.
A dear friend of mine was coming to Christmas and I wanted to do something very special for her. I hadn't done any needle felting in a long time and knowing how much she loves and appreciates the fiber arts I thought it was time to dust off the old felting mat and tackle my first 3D sculpture. I invited her over for an afternoon lunch, while trying to be subtle I asked her what her favorite animal is? She thought for a moment, with a smile she replied, "an Impala". immediately I tried to hide the internal panic/shock of all the creatures on this planet, an impala?!? you have got to be kidding me. How in the world was I going to pull that off! She then went on to explain how she fell in love with the way they gracefully move through the grasses and their energetic leaps and bounds are incredible to see. After our lunch, I was still a little puzzled on what I was going to do, my husband asked me so what's the project going to be? a dog? a cat? an owl? his face was about the same as my internal reaction, "a what?" "an Impala? that's kind of like a gazelle, right?" yes exactly....
I started working on a special Christmas present. I knew I wanted to do something incorporating my 3 boys as well as our back woods that the boys love to play in. After some research and inspirational searches, I decided to create the 4 seasons of the year with each son in the season of their birth.
Ok I have just spent that last 20 minutes pacing and cleaning trying to decide how to start this. I am not one to share too much, my husband and I are pretty private people. I know, so why am I writing a blog? Well I have been a homemaker for 7 years, during these past seven years I haven't just kept house. I bake and I craft I help my family with their businesses and family friends with theirs. I have couponed to make ends, and I make a whole 5 pound chicken last for 6-7 meals for 3 people and now 4-5 meals for 5 people. I get asked almost on a daily basis how do you do it? Well I'm not here with all the answers, and I certainly don't always land with a perfect 10, but if I can manage to help even one person then it's worth it. My goal with all this is to share our story and how we do it, as well as share some of the crazy and fun projects that my family and I do. I hope you take a minute to look around my site and check out some of my creations. I'll be adding a shop filled with goods made right here in Maine by myself and extended family. I'm working on a recipe log and many more things to come. this is a whole new adventure for me and I can't wait to see how it grows. Thanks for stopping by!
Living on a shoestring and making the most of the lemons
Life is not easy, we all know this by now, but life is what you make it, no matter how corny that sounds (rhymes and all). Some days you can't wait for them to just be over and others, why can't they last longer. So let's make the most of it, make the shoe string budget as long as you can and make the best darn lemonade you've ever had!
